Pioxio: How Our AI Photo Editor Found Its Footing Across Borders

The product we wanted to make
Pioxio is a browser-based AI photo editor. You open the app, upload an image, pick a tool, and have a result in seconds. No installs. No accounts required just to look around. No tedious manual work for edits that AI can now do automatically.
We chose photo editing as Serialtech Lab's first AI product because the industry standard — buying creative-suite software, learning it, then doing repetitive manual work — felt out of step with what's possible today. The bar for "good enough" image editing has moved, and most people haven't been told.
What Pioxio actually does
Most edits people need fall into a handful of categories. Pioxio handles each of them as a single click.
Fix old or low-quality photos
- Image Restore — sharpens, denoises, and revives old scans, blurry shots, and low-resolution images
- Auto Enhance — one-click lighting, color, and contrast correction
- Upscale — boost resolution for print, large displays, or high-DPI use
Generative edits
- AI Background Replace — describe a new background ("a tropical beach at sunset," "a clean studio backdrop") and Pioxio generates it
- Generative Fill — extend any photo beyond its original frame, with AI filling the new edges seamlessly
- Generative Replace — swap one object for another by description ("the car → a red bicycle")
- Generative Extract — pull a subject out cleanly onto a transparent or new background
- Object Remove — erase unwanted people, items, or distractions
Stylistic adjustments
- Object Recolor — change the color of a specific object without affecting the rest of the photo
- Black & White, Sepia, Cartoonify, Drop Shadow — instant filters and effects for product shots, social posts, and creative work
Composition tools
- Crop, rotate, flip — with content-aware framing that centers on the subject automatically
- Multi-format export — download in PNG, JPG, or WebP at original or 2× size
- Stacking — chain multiple edits on a single image (restore → upscale → background replace) without re-uploading
- Variants — for generative tools, Pioxio produces four versions at once so you can pick the best result rather than re-rolling
Two more things we care about, even though they sound less exciting:
- Privacy by default. Saved images are private to you. You explicitly opt in to make one public.
- Real resolution. Each transformation runs at the original image's resolution. The download you get is the download you can actually use.
Who's been using it
Here's the part of the story we didn't see coming.
We haven't run a local marketing push for Pioxio. No paid ads, no influencer campaigns, no press releases in our home market. Our customer base is small — but almost entirely international, and they found us organically.
A lot of our first users paid in crypto. We launched Pioxio when crypto payments were having a moment, and offering them gave us a global on-ramp without any of the usual cross-border-card friction. Customers from countries where Visa and Mastercard either don't reach reliably or charge punitive fees could try Pioxio without thinking twice about it.
In hindsight, we think this is a useful lesson for any small team launching globally: the payment method you accept shapes the audience you reach, often more than the marketing you haven't yet got the budget for.
What's next
The crypto-only payment story served us well in the early days, but we know it's a barrier for the next tier of customers — people who simply want to pay with the card they use for everything else. Card payments are next on our roadmap, alongside a proper local-market push now that we have the product where we want it.
We're also working through a longer list of capabilities: smarter workflow features for users editing every week, batch processing for those handling dozens of images at a time, and a few generative tools we're not quite ready to talk about yet.
Try it
If you have an old family photo that needs restoring, a product shot that needs a cleaner background, or a social post you wish you could just describe instead of edit pixel-by-pixel — Pioxio is built for those moments.
Pioxio is the first of several AI products we're building at Serialtech Lab. If you want to follow along as we ship the next ones — or if you have feedback on what would make Pioxio more useful — we'd love to hear from you.
